Newton Hale :: About Us

The business commenced in 1930 when the founder Mr Harry Newton Hale started trading as a sole trader in Liverpool as an agent for galvanised products and holloware. Finding success in this business he decided to “cut out the middleman” and began to stock products himself and thus begin the process of creating the wholesale business that we are today. The business moved to various sites in Liverpool as larger premises became necessary and then eventually moved to the Wirral.

When his two sons joined the business, Steve in 1964 and Bill in 1972, the business continued to expand and develop as a partnership. The business was incorporated in December 1981 at the time that it moved to its present location in Birkenhead.

As the business grew, Steve’s wife Ann joined the company in 1988 to assist with the business administration.

In 1993 Steve and Ann’s eldest son, Stephen, joined the company to become involved in developing the sales side of the business.

In 1995 Steve and Bill’s sister Gwen and her eldest son Ian joined the company. Gwen to assist with the growing administrative workload and Ian to assist in the day to day management of the business and to also to develop a Customer Service team.

In 1996 Stephen and Ann’s other son, Robert joined the company to become involved in further developing sales.

In 1999 Gwen’s younger son Simon joined the company to assist in the business and to further develop the growth of the Customer service team and in 2005 sister Jenny joined on a part time basis to assist with daily business administration.

Throughout its history, the business has built up an enviable reputation for service, quality and competitive prices. We take great pride in being an independent company offering a friendly, personal service combined with a high standard of business efficiency.

The business has been based on Merseyside throughout the whole of its trading history and still remains very much a family business.

The company currently operates from our site in the Wirral from which we service our customers throughout England and Wales, using our own vehicle network.
